Students develop a knowledge and understanding of Biology. The course focuses on an understanding of key principles in Biology within the context of normal physiology (how the lungs, heart and immune system work) and then disease processes. It tackles aspects of variation by considering actual examples of differences between organisms e.g. haemoglobin, and transport systems and the importance of the relationship between something?s structure and its function, as well as genetic differences and how they arise. Practical work is carried out and
assessed throughout the units.
A wide range of topics from the detailed processes of photosynthesis and respiration to populations and ecology, cycling of resources and then genetic inheritance patterns and the development of new species. Unit 5 is about control within cells and whole organisms. You will learn more about how your nervous system and eyes work, control of internal conditions, muscle structure and how it contracts. You will also explore how DNA controls characteristics and gain an understanding of up to date DNA technology.

Grade 6 in level 2 equivalent course with 6 in Maths
